New Delhi (ABC Live India): The Day 276 Report of COVID-19: Today was the 276 day of India’s Fight against Coronavirus: ABC Research Report.

As per the Ministry of Health and Family welfare till 8 AM of 25/12/2020, there are 281919 active cases, 9717834 COVID-19 patients have been discharged and 147092 persons lost their lives in India till 8 AM of 25/12/2020.

On the testing of the capacity of India, the ICMR in its daily report on 25/12/2020 that a total of 16,63,05,762 have been conducted in India till 9 AM of 24/12/2020. Further, the ICMR reported that 9,97,396 new samples were taken during the last 24 hours.

3.    The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare stated that as a step to prep up for administration of COVID-19 vaccine, and to assess the readiness of the planned activities, a dry run has been planned in four states to start with, viz. Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Gujarat, Punjab considering the geographical locations.

4.    The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare  stated that The National Expert Group on Vaccine Administration of COVID-19 (NEGVAC) has recommended three prioritised population groups including  Healthcare Workers (HCWs) (about 1 crore), Frontline Workers (FLWs) (about 2 crore), and Prioritized Age Group (about 27 crore).   As vaccines are temperature sensitive and need to be stored in specific temperature, the present cold chain system consisting of 85,634 equipments for storage of vaccine at about 28,947 cold chain points across the country will be used for the cold chain administration. The current cold chain is capable of storing additional quantity of Covid-19 vaccine required for the first 3 Crore prioritised population i.e Health Care Workers and Front Line Workers.

3.    The Ministry of Finance stated that it has released the 8th weekly installment of Rs. 6,000 crore to the States to meet the GST compensation shortfall. Out of this, an amount of Rs. 5,516.60 crore has been released to 23 States and an amount of Rs. 483.40 crore has been released to the 3 Union Territories (UT) with Legislative Assembly (Delhi, Jammu & Kashmir & Puducherry) who are members of the GST Council. The relaxation will be subject to certain conditions.

8.    The Ministry of Law and Justice stated that A total number of 8152 Benches were constituted by 31 SLSAs to conduct the National Lok Adalat. It was successful in disposing of 10,42,816 cases. Out of the total cases disposed of 5,60,310cases were at the pre-litigation stage and 4,82,506 cases were those which were pending in the courts. The details, as provided by states on the NALSA portal, indicate that the settlement amount was nearly ₹3227.99 Cr.

6.    The Ministry of Finance stated that the Government of India and the World Bank today signed a $400 million project to support India’s efforts at providing social assistance to the poor and vulnerable households, severely impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. This is the second operation in a programmatic series of two. The first operation of $750 million was approved in May 2020. The programme will strengthen the capability of state and national governments in India to provide coordinated and adequate social protection to the poor and vulnerable from the shocks triggered by the COVID-19 pandemic.

7.    The Ministry of Finance stated that the Government of India and the New Development Bank (NDB) today signed a loan agreement for lending $1,000 million for ‘supporting India’s economic recovery from COVID-19’ by supporting expenditures on rural infrastructure related to natural resource management (NRM) and rural employment generation under Government of India’s Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS).   

8.    The Ministry of Finance stated that the Department of Expenditure, Ministry of Finance, has extended the deadline for the States to complete citizen-centric reforms in various sectors. Now, if the recommendation from the nodal Ministry concerned regarding implementation of the reform is received by 15th February 2021, the State will be eligible for reform linked benefits.
